It's 5 years since we brought Active Root to our first customers. Each week in August we're going to be reviewing one of those years - this week 2019!

2019 was the year in which we began establishing ourselves in the endurance market, becoming well known across Scotland and some other regions of the UK where we supported events or retailers.

On top of continuing to support a greater range of events and retailers, in 2019 we also expanded our product range from just our Sports Drinks to include low calorie ElectroLite, Hot Active Root and our, unique to this day, Tub Refills.  

ElectroLite: low calorie, hydration drink...

In 2019 we launched Active Root Original Ginger ElectroLite, a low calorie version of our Sports Drink range, containing 1/4 the amount of sugar, but the same amount of sea salt and ginger. 

Originally we thought this would be a product more appealing to the general public and tried to retail it to gyms, yoga studios and even at pregnancy classes to combat morning sickness. However it quickly became clear that ElectroLite was really popular amongst endurance athletes for rehydrating after easier sessions when loads of carbohydrate isn't required and during very hot runs and cycles.  

Refill, Refuel and Save!

When we first launched our Tub Refills, they were meant for just Active Root customers who had already bought a Tub. However, they proved so popular that customers now buy Refills straight away and store their Active Root Powder in their own Tupperware. 

We initially used recyclable vegeware plastic for the packaging, however this wasn't very durable, so we moved to the paper bags we used today. 

Some like it Hot

In the winter of 2019 we began giving away our Hot Active Root. With more sugary molasses, Hot Active Root tastes more like caramel and is perfect for refuelling after a cold winter session. 

You loved it so much we began selling it in Refill Bags and last year launched a new flavour: Hot Coco.

For all of August we are giving away 1x Original Ginger 6x Sachet Pack with all orders over £5 (automatically added to basket). Alongside our Original Ginger Sports Drink Tub, this was our first product with each sachet being plain white, which we had to stick our own printed label on to!

Week 4 22-28/08: 2020, when we launched Original Ginger Gel Mix
Week 5 29-31/08: 2021, when we launched caffeinated Guarana Gel Mix and Lemonbalm ElectroLite+.
